‘Spinning babies’ to improved outcomes

Spinning Babies workshops – educational training programmes designed to teach midwives and parents how to use physiological principles, body balancing, movement, and gravity to ease pregnancy and improve foetal positioning during labour – are coming to Dublin. Dates are available to register for a one- or two-day foundational programme, or a two-day integration workshop, in November.

The workshops teach techniques to support foetal positioning and labour progress. The approach is built on three core concepts that support foetal positioning:
✽ Balance: Releasing tight or asymmetrical soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and ligaments) in the pelvis to give the baby more room to move
✽ Gravity: Using specific upright or leaning postures to help align the uterus and encourage the baby to descend
✽ Movement: Incorporating everyday activities, stretches, and rotational movements to help the baby find the best path through the pelvis.

Trial data referenced by Spinning Babies demonstrates improved labour outcomes associated with optimal foetal positioning techniques and body balancing approaches, including:
✽ Reduced rates of Caesarean birth in cases involving foetal malposition
✽ Improved maternal comfort during pregnancy and labour
✽ Increased likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth
✽ Reduced labour dystocia and prolonged labour
✽ Enhanced clinical understanding of pelvic dynamics and foetal rotation.

Venue: White Sands Hotel, Portmarnock, Co Dublin

Workshop schedule:
Two-day foundational workshop: 14-15 November 2026
One-day foundational workshop: 16 November 2026
Two-day integration workshop: 17-18 November 2026
