The HSE has launched its Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinical Action Guide to improve access to high-quality, person-centred rehabilitation for people living with cardiovascular disease. Developed with clinical experts, national health programmes, and patient representatives, the guide aims to support consistent care across acute
and community services nationwide.
Prof Ken McDonald, Consultant Cardiologist and National Clinical Co-Lead at the National Heart Office, described cardiac rehabilitation as “one of the most effective evidence-based interventions”
for people recovering from cardiac events.
The guide promotes flexible in-person, virtual, and hybrid programmes supported by multidisciplinary teams including nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, psychologists, and cardiologists. It supports the HSE’s 2023 Model of Care for Integrated Cardiac Rehabilitation, with the aim of ensuring patients receive timely, evidence-based care regardless of where they live.
