The Medical Council is set to host a major international conference on medical regulation, which is expected to be “self-financing”.
The 16th International Conference on Medical Regulation will take place in Dublin in September 2025. The conference, organised by the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), is primed to attract over 350 delegates. The theme will be ‘People-focused regulation for a safer global community’.
A Medical Council spokesperson told the Medical Independent: “The conference is expected to be self-financing, funded by registration fees and sponsorship. The Medical Council has not sought additional funding from Government or the Department of Health; however, Fáilte Ireland offer a small amount of funding per international delegate to organisations hosting international conferences in Ireland.”
IAMRA has 119 members from 43 countries, according to its website. The Medical Council is the only full member in Ireland, while CORU is a partner member.
The listed fee for full membership for a national medical regulator in a high-income country is currently US$4,532 per annum.
According to the Medical Council, IAMRA membership facilitates collaboration with international colleagues in medical regulation. “This community is an important source of support, information, and resources,” added the spokesperson.
