Substantial reductions in the cumulative daily trolley count numbers in HSE hospitals have been noted in a new Sláintecare report.

The draft Sláintecare 2024 Progress Report was reviewed at the March meeting of the Sláintecare programme board.

Minutes from the meeting state that board members “welcomed” the draft report.

They acknowledged the progress made in enhancing access to services last year, including “significant reductions in the cumulative daily trolley count in 2024”.

The report reveals that the cumulative daily trolley count decreased by 11 per cent last year, despite an 8 per cent rise in the number of patients presenting to emergency departments.

Additionally, in relation to waiting lists, it shows an approximate 12 per cent reduction in the total number of patients waiting over 12 months since December 2023.

The 2024 progress report also includes statistics indicating that 81 per cent of the population reports being in “overall good or very good health.

A Department of Health spokesperson told the Medical Independent that the Sláintecare 2024 Progress Report is expected to be published “shortly.”

The spokesperson further noted that the current primary focus for the Sláintecare programme management office is the Sláintecare 2025+ Action Plan.

This is currently in the final stages of development and approval and “will be published in due course”.
