The ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators works to advance the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties.
The Academy is a landmark programme of the American College of Surgeons Division of Education. It was created in 2017 by Drs Ajit Sachdeva and LD Britt to recognise the highest levels of achievements in the field of surgical education and to create a vibrant community of renowned master surgeon educators, who will work closely with the ACS Division of Education, to advance the science and practice of avant-garde surgical education and training.
Members of the Academy are selected through a rigorous peer-review process, and induction into this prestigious academy is a high honour. Prof Carroll joins a select group of 458 members from the US and nine countries, who together will collaborate on a wide range of critical topics in surgical education. The work of the Academy Members is to publish significant works of scholarship, participate in Grand Rounds Series, and attend the Academy Symposium, an annual conference held at ACS in Chicago.
When inducted into the Academy, Prof Carroll said: “It is with deep gratitude and profound humility that I accept the honour of induction into the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.”
“I would like to thank Dr Britt and Dr Sachdeva, the steering committee, and my sponsors Prof Oscar Traynor and Prof Kevin Barry for supporting my nomination.
“I would like to thank the many patients, mentors and residents who have shaped my surgical career and the continued love and support of my family. I look forward to collaborating with the Academy in the years to come.”
