The roll-out of the Solus endoscopy reporting system will continue across seven additional hospital sites during the remainder of the year, the Medical Independent (MI) has been told.

The service was discussed at the April meeting of the Sláintecare programme board, where members were informed that Sligo University Hospital (SUH) had been the first site to deploy the system.

A HSE spokesperson confirmed the new Solus endoscopy reporting system was deployed at SUH in January 2026. Since then, implementation has continued to progress across the country.

As of September, a number of other sites had either deployed the system or gone live, according to the HSE.

They are: Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin; St James’s Hospital, Dublin; Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, Co Meath. The spokesperson also described the system for Children’s Health Ireland as “ready for commissioning”.

A further seven sites are scheduled for deployment during the final quarter of this year, including Ennis Hospital, Co Clare; Nenagh Hospital, Co Tipperary; St John’s Hospital, Limerick; and University Hospital Limerick.

“The national roll-out programme will continue throughout 2027 and 2028, with implementation planned across approximately 40 statutory and voluntary hospitals nationwide,” the spokesperson told MI.

Alongside the individual site deployments, work is also under way on a number of supporting elements, including integration with patient administration systems/integrated patient management systems, Healthlink, electronic patient record systems, and endoscopy equipment. This also includes migrating legacy data, reconciling historical reports, and delivering training and change management programmes.

Solus is Ireland’s national endoscopy reporting system, providing a single platform for documenting and reporting endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and urology procedures across the health service. The system is replacing multiple local reporting systems with a standardised national solution designed to deliver consistent national data collection and reporting.

The HSE spokesperson said the system will also lead to “improved clinical governance, quality assurance, and patient safety”.

It will provide a national dataset to support audit, performance monitoring and service planning, with future integration with wider digital health initiatives across the health system, according to the Executive.
