Goalkeeping heroics inspire St Vincent’s to Cup win

    24 Sep 2018

St Vincent’s leaned on an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Gavin McDaid to earn a 3-1 away win against Inchicore Athletic FC in the first round of the Noel Ryan Cup. Aidan McGrath scored twice, either side of a close-range effort from Cian Ward, before a late consolation from the hosts. Inchicore may feel aggrieved by the loss, but they were punished for missing a hatful of chances.

St Vincent’s FC back in league action

    13 Sep 2018

St Vincent’s Hospital FC returned to league action with a trio of games in close succession. On the back of last season’s league title success, the team have been promoted two divisions to the Leinster Senior League Saturday Major 1B. This league represents the highest-level competition the club has ever competed at, and it will bring tough league fixtures on a weekly basis. The squad has seen some turnover, with a number of new faces coming in to replace those who have moved on, mainly due to peripheral rotations or to work abroad. It will be a tough ask to win back-to-back league titles, but the team are looking forward to the upcoming season with optimism and excitement.

Common sense in life, death and the law

    23 Aug 2018

It is often said: ‘Justice and the law are distant cousins. And sometimes, they are not even on speaking terms.’ This quirky but often true expression is particularly resonant for the medical profession, especially in the context of the result from the referendum on the Eighth Amendment. For doctors, the result seems to have raised more questions than it answered in terms of responsibility, potential liability, and so on.
