A message from your PDCs: ‘Empowering nurses, protecting communities’

By Marie Cantwell - 01st May 2025

The PDCs for General Practice Nursing in Ireland

The 2025 National Immunisation Conference Series, titled ‘Empowering nurses, protecting communities’, is drawing to a close soon in Carrick-on-Shannon, and we are delighted to say that this year has been another huge success.

Muthu Saba, Dr Tom Barrett, and Kate Cassidy

This annual series of events is presented by us, your professional development coordinators for general practice nursing, and the National Immunisation Office (NIO) in four separate locations across the country, and is packed with the most up-to-date, relevant, and practical knowledge and skills for GPNs and other healthcare professionals who are part of vaccination care in Ireland.

This year, meetings also took place in Kilkenny, Limerick, and Dublin. The series welcomed over 1,000 attendees from all over the island of Ireland that comprised hundreds GPNs, as well as GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

At each event there was a special focus on inclusion of vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities, accounts of the lived experience of patients, as well as a range of insightful and informative talks from distinguished guest speakers.

Delegates also had the opportunity to attend practical skills sessions that covered an array of topics including clinical holding and injection technique, medicine protocols, optimising general practice software, and more.

On behalf of my PDC colleagues and our friends at the NIO, I would like to thank all who attended and took part this year. Don’t worry if you could not attend in person, full coverage of the National Immunisation Conference Series 2025 will be included in the next edition of Nursing in Practice Ireland alongside details of how you can access information and slides from the events.
