The HSE’s Project Home initiative will conduct targeted outreach to Irish-educated consultants in the UK before the end of the year.

In June, the Medical Independent (MI) reported that a targeted strategy to attract Irish-trained healthcare professionals back from Australia was set to be extended to other countries. The HSE has confirmed that Project Home will conduct outreach to Irish-educated consultants in the UK in the coming months. It will focus on “in demand” specialties.

Project Home was launched in December 2025, initially focusing on Australia. It is described as a targeted attraction and engagement strategy to encourage overseas Irish healthcare graduates to return to work in Ireland.

A HSE spokesperson told MI that Project Home is a “medium-term initiative” aiming to build a “trusted communications channel” with the healthcare diaspora.

“It is not a recruitment drive, but provides practical and useful information and supports to help smooth the path home to Ireland and to the HSE, as and when people are considering returning.”

The first phase of the initiative has involved a digital marketing campaign, primarily using Facebook and Instagram. In July, the HSE undertook awareness-raising advertising at the Ireland vs Australia rugby match in Sydney. Information webinars for those in Australia will take place before the end of the year. The HSE is also continuing to identify further potential ‘in-person’ events to engage Irish healthcare professionals in Australia.

Some 440 Irish graduates in Australia across all medical disciplines have registered for the Project Home newsletter. The third newsletter is due to be published soon. “Our engagement numbers continue to grow,” the HSE spokesperson said. “We are in the process of refreshing our online advertising.”
