You care for patients across some of the most complex and meaningful moments in medicine. Here, you’ll find the same depth and satisfaction in your career.

Health New Zealand is welcoming qualified Transplant Haematologists to join teams across New Zealand — collaborative, patient-focused environments where clinical culture, continuity of care, and scope of practice set us apart from large overseas centres.

What makes practice here different

  1. Comprehensive scope: Unlike highly subspecialised international roles, you’ll deliver high-level care across autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, cellular therapies, and wider haematology, spanning inpatient and outpatient settings. A breadth particularly valued by international  specialists seeking a return to holistic clinical medicine.

  2. Patient engagement: New Zealand’s system fosters meaningful involvement of patients and families in treatment decisions, continuity of care, and stronger therapeutic relationships.

  3. Collegial culture: Departments operate with non-hierarchical structures, open communication, shared decision-making, and peer review. Teaching and supervision are recognised as core consultant responsibilities, not add-ons.

Opportunities across Health New Zealand

We’re recruiting Transplant Haematologists to work in secondary and tertiary hospitals across the country, delivering both advanced subspecialty care and comprehensive general haematology.

Clinical services could include:

  • Autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation
  • Cellular therapies
  • Acute leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma
  • Haemostasis, thrombosis, and bleeding disorders
  • Plasma exchange
  • General clinical and laboratory haematology

You’ll manage inpatient and outpatient services, contribute to multidisciplinary tumour boards, participate in clinical trials, and supervise trainees. Additionally, many centres hold Royal Australasian College of Physicians training accreditation, with teaching and mentorship embedded naturally into everyday practice.

What you need to work here

Registration: Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate. International applicants will typically hold qualifications equivalent to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Haematology), with experience in allogeneic and/or autologous stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies.

Visa: Most international applicants will require a work visa to practise in New Zealand. Health New Zealand’s Health Immigration Service provides complimentary support, so you’re not navigating the process alone.
