Design team begins work on Beaumont’s new ED

By Mindo - 07th Feb 2018

According to Mr Ian Carter, CEO of both the hospital and the RCSI Hospital Group, the works will cost €31 million and are due to begin in 2019. Construction will take three years.

The information is contained in the capital submission and cost-benefit analysis prepared by Beaumont in 2017, Mr Carter stated.

He added that agreement has been given by HSE Estates to progress the selection and appointment of a design team to review previous studies and development control plans for the ED this year.

The design team will also prepare an outline programme for the new ED, including phasing of construction works. A cost plan, outlining all final costs for the project, will also be prepared by the design team.

“It is projected that the necessary design team will have completed this first phase of work before completion of second quarter of 2018 [sic],” Mr Carter stated in response to a question placed by Councillor Ciaran O’Moore at a recent meeting of the Dublin North East Regional Health Forum.

The ED currently provides care to more than 50,000 patients annually and is one of the busiest EDs nationally. It first opened in 1987.

A budget of around €100,000 has been confirmed for the new ED design team fees, it is understood.
