A “personal style which will quickly gain respect and engender confidence in their ability to lead, communicate and drive change in the health sector” is also listed in the “person specification”.
According to the advertisement on the Public Appointments Service website, a remuneration package “commensurate with the importance of the role will be provided to the successful candidate. Full details will be agreed as part of the final contract negotiations.”
In a press release, the Department of Health said the recruitment process will seek to attract “very senior candidates” with a strong track record in implementing large-scale programmes of reform. The closing date is Thursday, 1 February next.
The term of appointment for the role will be for five years. The appointee will be required to serve a 12-month probationary period.
Speaking today, Minister for Health Simon Harris said establishing “a well-resourced Sláintecare Programme Office with an Executive Director and team of a high calibre is a key step towards successful implementation of reform”. He added that €1 million has been allocated for the establishment of the Sláintecare Programme Office this year.
Minister Harris said implementation of several key recommendations from the Sláintecare Report is underway with dedicated resourcing. Mr Donal de Búitléir has been appointed to chair an independent group to examine the impact of removing private practice from public hospitals. This Group has commenced its work and launched a public consultation process before Christmas. It is expected to report in Quarter 3.
The Minister will also bring a Memo to Government in the coming weeks with the General Scheme for a Bill to introduce a Governing Board for the HSE, while a consultation process on the future alignment of Hospitals Groups and Community Health Organisations will commence “shortly”.
According to the Department’s press release, Budget 2018 provided targeted funding for areas identified in the Sláintecare Report, including €25m allocated to a new Primary Care Fund, €37 million for additional home care and transition beds, €17.5 million allocated to reduced medicine and prescription charges, €75 million targeted funding for waiting list reduction, and €1 million to the Sláintecare Programme Office.
