Mr Damian O’Farrell was appointed as a special advisor to Minister McGrath.
The other three Ministers of State in Hawkins House do not have special advisors as they do not sit at Cabinet.
Mr O’Farrell joins two special advisers appointed to Minister for Health Simon Harris (Ms Joanne Lonergan and Ms Majella Fitzpatrick).
“The salaries applicable to all three advisers is the standard scale for the grade of Principal Officer in the Civil Service (€79,401 – €91,624) in accordance with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform instructions to Personnel Officers on Ministerial Appointments for the 32nd Dáil,” a Department of Health spokesperson told the Medical Independent (MI).
Separately, Minister Harris told the Dáil in July that his travel expenses for the period of 6 May until 30 June reached €2,331.
The travel expenses of former Minister for Health Leo Varadkar for the period 1 January until 6 May 2016 totalled €5,380.
The travel expenses for former Minister of State Kathleen Lynch from 1 January until 6 May 2016 amounted to €4,213.
