Tallaght planning to re-establish paediatric orthopaedic trauma service

In July, the hospital’s paediatric orthopaedic trauma service was forced to close due to the inability to fill a consultant post. Since then, two new orthopaedic consultants have been appointed across Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, and Tallaght.

The first of the new consultants started in September, providing a weekly clinic to Tallaght. The second consultant is scheduled to start running a weekly clinic within the next few weeks.

The hospital is also in the process of finalising an additional clinic with the help of colleagues in Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, Dublin.

“When these are in place, the phased re-opening will meet our current demands at Tallaght Hospital,” according to a spokesperson for the hospital. “Tallaght Hospital apologises for any inconvenience caused to patients and their families.”

Meanwhile, Tallaght Hospital has released its 2015 Quality Report, which for the first time ever is separate from its Annual Report.
