Suspected case of Covid-19 prompts closure of Medical Council HQ

The Medical Council has stated that “out of an abundance of caution” it is closing its office temporarily due to a suspected case of Covid-19.

The Council says it has remote working facilities in place. Any doctors with queries for the Council are asked to send them via email (https://www.medicalcouncil.ie/contact-details/).

Last week, the Council informed the Medical Independent (MI) it had a business continuity plan in place “with a number of staff having access to work remotely across all core functions, with capacity being increased”.

“With teleconferencing and video conferencing facilities in place the Council has the ability to continue hosting committee meetings, if required, remotely or via the office with participants dialing in.”

It said that in the “extreme case of an office closure, for an extended period of time, delays on some functions may occur. Remote working staff may be transferred from other sections into priority areas such as registration to ensure a continuation of service in priority areas.”
