Rotunda pays €40,000 to management consultancy firm in strategic plan contract

The Rotunda’s spokesperson told MI that a framework is in place for strategic advisors. “There are nine members of this framework and tenders were requested from four, and four submissions were received. One submission was eliminated and three were called for interview, from which MCO was chosen. The value of the contract is €40,000.”

MCO undertook an exercise of meetings and workshops with the Rotunda board and staff, as well as with “many external stakeholders” to establish and agree the objectives for the next strategic plan. The company also reviewed best international practice, according to the Rotunda’s spokesperson.

The hospital’s last such document, which sets out priority areas, objectives and actions for forthcoming years, was the Strategic Plan 2014-2016.

The final document was due to be presented to the board this month, after which it will be published on the Rotunda’s website.

Meanwhile, the hospital said it is engaging key staff in discussions on the requirements associated with its future move to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. “This approach will continue at all stages of the project to ensure staff are fully aware and engaged in the process,” the spokesperson added.

“A number of joint appointments at consultant level have been made in the past year between the Rotunda and Connolly Hospital with an objective of building the clinical relationship between the two hospitals for current and future purposes. However, the project is not yet in the National Capital Plan and therefore, as the time frame for relocation is not determined, no more specific actions [on staff retention] are in progress.”

The HSE is currently engaged in an exercise to produce a Protective Campus Development Plan, which will recommend the site for the Rotunda at the Connolly campus.
