Patient safety initiative cost more than €21,000

The highest single payment was for hiring the conference centre and catering facilities at Croke Park stadium which cost €14,980.61. Additionally, audio and visual services provided by a company for the conference amounted to €4,083.60. The charge for printing conference programmes was €642.68.

The pre-conference dinner, with a speaker from the UK on 6 November, arrived at €254.08, and hotel accommodation for a UK speaker came to €284. Total air travel costs for two UK speakers were €405.77.

Miscellaneous costs associated with the conference, including “travel, taxis, gifts for speakers and stationary,” amounted to €431.03.

Meanwhile, €281.80 was incurred in travel expenses associated with attendance at National Patient Safety Advisory Group meetings.

The Department describes Patient Safety First as “an awareness raising initiative through which healthcare organisations declare their ongoing commitment to patient safety”.

The National Patient Safety Conference aims to promote the objectives of Patient Safety First by providing a forum for stakeholders in patient safety.

The “huge interest” in the 2014 conference was reflected in over 400 registrations and submission of 107 abstract papers, according to a Department press release.
