This meeting is open to all doctors and medical students to discuss issues affecting non-Irish doctors and the vision for a better life for both patients and doctors in Ireland.
It takes place between 1pm-4pm at the Wisdom Centre in Sophia Head Office, 25 Cork St, Dublin 8.
On the agenda for the meeting is the timeline for changes in the Medical Practitioners Act 2007, transparency in the allocation of training jobs in Ireland, and lack of internship opportunities for non-EU medical students studying in Ireland.
Additionally, what the OMI describes as the “delay in registration of non-EU doctors” at the Medical Council and the regulator’s customer service standards will also be examined at the meeting.
In recent months, the OMI has been active on a number of fronts, notably pushing for an end to the requirement on non-EU doctors to establish internship equivalency in order to be eligible for training posts. Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said an amendment will be brought forward to this effect.
