New Children’s Hospital in discussions with Department over philanthropy plan

According to minutes from the December meeting of the Board, a representative was to meet Department officials about the issue. It was anticipated that the “Philanthropy Committee will be in place by the middle of 2015”. The minutes of the meeting were obtained by the Medical Independent (MI) following a Freedom of Information request.

A hospital spokesperson told MI that there are no figures as yet for how much the hospital hopes to raise from philanthropic donations, or what percentage of overall funding would be forecasted to come from this source.

“As with any major healthcare facility, and in particular with children’s hospitals, philanthropy has an important role to play to make the facility special,” the hospital spokesperson said.

“Work is ongoing on the development of a plan for this area, which includes the establishment of an appropriate structure to manage the philanthropy campaign for the New Children’s Hospital. We don’t have forecasted figures at this time.”

The concept design for the New Children’s Hospital was unveiled in April, with Minister for Health Leo Varadkar describing it as the “largest health infrastructure project in the history of the State”.
