Furthermore, to date in 2017, payments to nursing recruitment agencies for HSE placements in the HSE East region amount to more than €11,200.
The data was revealed at a recent meeting of the Dublin North East Regional Health Forum following a question by Councillor Ciaran O’Moore on nurse recruitment.
“HSE staff were involved in a recruitment campaign in the UK, Wales and Scotland between April-June 2017 at a cost of €10,000. This was to engage with nurses working in the UK re opportunities available in hospitals in Ireland [sic],” the HSE outlined in response to Councillor O’Moore.
“Separately, delegated authority for nursing recruitment and recruitment rests with the relevant Directors of Nursing in the Hospital Groups. In some cases, nursing recruitment agencies will be liaising in this process. To date in 2017, payments to nursing recruitment agencies for HSE placements in HSE east are €11,241.”
Some 451 nurses were recruited from abroad via the campaign and to date, 407 of these nurses are in employment. The HSE plans to recruit 1,224 nursing/midwifery staff in 2017.
Meanwhile, all 2017 Irish nurse graduates have been offered positions within the HSE, but positions can only be offered where there is a requirement to fill a post, the HSE pointed out.
