The Maternity Patient Safety Statement contains information on 17 metrics covering a range of clinical activities, major obstetric events, modes of delivery and clinical incidents.
According to the HSE these particular metrics have been selected on the basis that they are clinically robust, relevant and underpinned by standardised definitions.
“As National Lead I strongly welcome the publication of the first Maternity Safety Statements for all maternity units in the country,” says Professor Michael Turner National Clinical Lead, HSE National Clinical Programme for Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
“I am delighted that Ireland is the world leader in publishing timely safety data which will assist local and national hospital managers in maintaining and improving the quality of care across the country’s maternity services. The publication of this data should also provide welcome reassurance for women using our services.”
Mr Stephen McMahon, the Irish Patients Association also welcomed the publication.
“The publication of the maternity safety statements today is a welcome action and is a significant step forward in assuring patients of the safety and quality of maternity services,” he said.
