The survey by mental health organisation GROW also found that 89 per cent of respondents believe the Government is not doing enough to support community-based mental health services.
The online survey, conducted in July, had 178 respondents including GROW members, GPs and members of the public
Ms Michele Kerrigan, CEO of GROW, said: “While I am sure Minister [Kathleen] Lynch might argue this is only a very small sample size in this survey, I can assure her had it been larger these results would be no different.
“It is a clear statement from those suffering from mental health issues that while this current Government might believe it has done a lot for mental health, that opinion is not shared by those on the ground.”
She added: “If this Government does not wake up to the fact that community based mental health services are in trouble, we will be facing another crisis similar to that in homelessness and A&E recently, and in this case lives will be lost also.”
