Dr Dominic Hegarty, Consultant in Pain Management and Neuromodulation at South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH) and Co-Chair of the event, said he hoped the meeting would help to increase awareness of CRPS and chronic pain in Ireland.
“This is a particular condition [CRPS] that affects a specific group of people but affects them dramatically and has a huge impact on lifestyle and quality of life for patients,” Dr Hegarty told the Medical Independent (MI).
“The unique thing about this meeting is that it’s multidisciplinary…. Everyone is doing a great job on their own but I think if we can amalgamate ideas, research and clinical practice, we would do much better.”
The event also saw the launch of the first CRPS hand-out document for healthcare professionals and providers.
