A core group of 20 cyclists will take on the entire route from Mizen Head to Malin Head, with others choosing to complete a stage or two.
Hugh’s House was established in 2015 and the charity now operates two houses, which provide free long- and short-term accommodation for parents who have to move to Dublin while their children undergo treatment in the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin, or the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. The cycle aims to raise €40,000.
Among the group of participating cyclists are Dr Sinead Lynch and Ms Claire Lambe, who last competed together in the final of the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls at the Rio Olympics.
“As a doctor, I see at first-hand the stress and heartache that the parents of sick children have to endure and as a parent of three little girls, I can only imagine how devastating this is,” said Dr Lynch, who is currently completing her GP training.
“Parents also have the financial worry of taking time off work and looking after other children at home whilst finding somewhere to stay in Dublin.”
