BMJ clinical support tool available in Ireland

BMJ’s clinical decision support tool BMJ Best Practice has been selected by the HSE National Health Library and Knowledge Service to provide clinical information for all HSE healthcare professionals in the Republic of Ireland.

BMJ Best Practice gives healthcare professionals fast and easy access to the latest information when making diagnosis and treatment decisions. Updated daily, it draws on the latest evidence-based research, guidelines and expert opinion to offer step-by-step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention.

The agreement provides doctors, nurses, paramedics and community care professionals with guidance on the most common medical conditions, which will improve knowledge and support the delivery of the very best care to patients.

Users will be recognised via national IP and will be able to access the information in BMJ Best Practice at anytime via the mobile responsive website, or offline with the app.  Individual groups can also contact BMJ to integrate Best Practice into their electronic health record (EHR) system.

Ms Louise Crowe, Director for BMJ Knowledge, said: “We are delighted to see healthcare professionals and patients across the Republic of Ireland benefiting from the latest and most relevant clinical information from BMJ Best Practice. Making BMJ Best Practice accessible in this way is also an important step for us towards our vision of helping to create a healthier world.”

Mr Paul Reid, CEO of the HSE, said: “This clinical resource gives Irish health professionals immediate access to the latest clinical evidence and diagnostic tools, no matter where they are based. It will have a very significant impact on patient care.”
