The proposed unit was to be built at a site in the Whitemill Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Wexford town, but it was refused planning permission due to the negative effect construction would have on factories operating in the vicinity.
“The successful tenderer has appealed the decision of Wexford County Council to refuse their application for planning permission for this haemodialysis unit to An Bord Pleanála and an outcome to that appeal process is awaited by the HSE,” the Executive said in response to a recent Parliamentary Question from Labour Leader Deputy Brendan Howlin on the subject.
“Plans are also being prepared for appropriate actions in the event of an unsuccessful appeal to identify the solution that will most quickly secure a contracted haemodialysis service for the people of Wexford.”
Responsibility for the identification and development of a suitable facility for a haemodialysis unit in Wexford rests with Fresenius Medical Care Ireland Ltd, as provided for in the specification and terms governing the recent tender competition, according to the HSE.
