The Irish College of General Practitioners has issued a statement to members defending its agreement on the transfer of care of patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer from secondary care to the patient's GP after five years.

The IMO cannot recommend members accept a National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) follow-up care plan for breast cancer patients. It is requesting a meeting with the NCCP and urged the Department of Health to "engage in an appropriate manner on this issue" .

There are an “overwhelming” number of paediatric food allergy cases presenting to the health service, the newly launched Irish Food Allergy Network (IFAN) announced today. It added that there is over a three-year wait for a food challenge and long waiting lists for community and paediatric dieticians.

Figures released by the Health Protection and Surveillance Centre show that there were 166 newly diagnosed cases of HIV among gay and bisexual men in Ireland last year. The figures are the highest diagnosis rates recorded to date.
