A new 30-bed unit at Fermoy Community Hospital has been officially opened. The Dochas ward will cater for older people who require continuing, convalescent, respite or palliative care, the HSE said.

The ward has single, twin and four-bedded rooms with en suite facilities, creating a homely environment together with specialist equipment and facilities, the HSE added. There is also a visitor’s room with overnight accommodation for relatives who can stay with their loved one if necessary. The ward can be accessed through the newly constructed glass corridor known as the ‘Craoi’ corridor.

St Patrick’s Hospital Fermoy Fundraising Association Ltd raised a total of €460,000 in recent years to fund the development.
